Transcript[edit | edit source]

Riverfront Trail

(Michael Aranda and Katelyn Salem are jogging along the trail next to the river.)

Michael: (Panting) I haven't been awake that long, but I'm already jogging. And I'm tired. So the YouTube Capture app has this new functionality with which you can record a bunch of clips and it keeps them all in the same video. So today I'm going to experiment with just using that and seeing what I end up with at the end of the day.

(The camera moves close to Katelyn's face.)

Are you ready?

Katelyn: I feel great!

(Katelyn smiles big and gives a thumbs up.)

Michael: Ehhhhh.

(The camera shows Silver Park from the trail.)

They've been doing a lot of construction over here in the last six months. This used to be an old sawmill. And now they're turning it into a park.

(The camera shows Mount Sentinel from the Orange Street bridge as Michael and Katelyn jog across it.)

Freestone Climbing

(Michael and Caitlin Hofmeister are standing at the bottom of a climbing wall that Stefan Chin is climbing behind them.)

Michael: We finished our jog and are taking a rest by going rock climbing now.

(Michael and Caitlin Hofmeister laugh.)

So, uh... Caitlin Hofmeister is here showing us how it's done because I've never done this before. Stefan's never done this before, but look, he's up on the wall.

Caitlin: Look, he's doing it right now!

Michael: He's like a monkey!

(Caitlin is climbing up a slanted portion of the climbing wall.)

Caitlin Hofmeister is like a little... a little spider climbing up the wall there. I don't understand it.

Stefan: It's crazy. Let's see her touch the top.

(Caitlin gets a good hand hold and hangs from the slanted wall.)

Stefan: Uh! Uh!

Michael: Don't do that! That's bad. What the heck?

Stefan: Whaaat? Whaaat?!

Michael: I've discovered that climbing hurts my... my knuckles, like the tendons in my hands. They're all... I don't know, swollen or something, but it hurts to rest my weight on them.

(Michael stands in front of the wall as someone else holds the camera. He's wearing a vest covered in pockets that have weights in them.)

I've decided that trying to climb this with a weighted vest is a good idea.

(Michael turns around to the wall and starts climbing. He gets most of the way up before letting go and jumping to the ground.)

I've decided that trying to climb this with a weighted vest is a bad idea.

(Stefan has the weighted vest on and is climbing the wall. The camera is on his right next to the wall.)

All right, Stefan's now trying the weighted vest. Here we go.

(Stefan struggles to keep a hold on the wall.)

Stefan: It's so much heavier.

(Michael laughs.)

Michael: Yeah.

(Stefan tries to get a foot hold above his waist, but can't support the weight.)

Katelyn: Good job!

Stefan: I can't... My arms...

Katelyn: Do it! You can do it!

(Stefan drops to the ground.)

Stefan: (Panting) My arms aren't strong enough. It's so much weight.

(Caitlin has the weighted vest on and is climbing the wall.)

Michael: And now it's Caitlin Hofmeister's turn with the weighted vest.

Stefan: This is where it gets hard.

Michael: Push!

Katelyn: Yeah girl!

Stefan: Jeeze.

(Caitlin gets just above where Michael and Stefan both struggled.)

Michael: What the heck.

(Caitlin drops to the ground.)

We all got stuck in the same place! The thing.

Stefan: You get to the point where you just have to muscle through it, and it's so heavy.

Defoe Street

(Michael, Katelyn, and Stefan walk to the car outside the rock climbing place. Katelyn jumps up and down as she's walking.)

Michael: Okay we're done climbing. Where to now?

Katelyn: Qdoba!

Michael: Qdoba?

Katelyn: Qdoba! Qdoba!

Michael: They just opened up a Qdoba in Missoula, which is... pretty similar to a Chipotle? I haven't decided which one I like better. Which one do you like better?

Nick Jenkin's Apartment

(Stefan stands next to Nick Jenkin's dining room table. He's wearing a grey headband that covers most of the top of his head.)

Michael: Sweet headband Stefan.

Stefan: Thanks man.

Michael: How'd you feel about Qdoba?

Stefan: Qdoba? Q-d... Is it Q-d... I wanna say Cue-doba. Why would it be Kee-doba?

Michael: Cued...Qd. Cue...

Stefan: X-doba?

Michael: (Phlegmy throat noise)dohba.

Stefan: (Phlegmy throat noise) dah buh. Um... Oh! How did I feel about it.

(Stefan laughs.)

Um, eh, the... food quality was high. It had a very clean taste but not as much flavor as I was hoping for, but I feel like I may have done it a little bit wrong and not gotten... the right sauces or cheeses or whatever.

(The camera pans over Nick's dining room table, which has the Arkham Horror board game set up on it.)

Michael: Stefan and Nick are gonna play this game. I don't know if I'm gonna play, though.

Nick: Michael's just gonna come over and hang out in my apartment.

Michael: Yeeeeaaahh.

Nick: Drink all of my shit.

Michael: And do pull-ups on this pull-up bar.

(Nick laughs.)

(The camera shows Nick sitting at the dining room table looks his iPad to figure out something about the game. Michael hangs from the doorway behind him and does two pull-ups. Abby squeaks a toy in the background.)

Nick: Bob Jenkins.

Stefan: Cookies!

Nick: What?

Katelyn: Cookies!

Michael: Cookies?

Katelyn: Doughnuts!

Stefan: I don't know. I just wanted to have—

Michael: You just wanted to say "cookies"?

Stefan: —just wanted to say "cookies".

Michael: Oh. I'm surprised I could do any of those, after... climbing.

(Katelyn plays tug of war with Abby using a squeaky toy.)

It's squealing for it's life!

(Katelyn giggles as Abby makes the toy squeak a bunch of times.)

Is that what it's supposed to mimic for the dog? The sound of some poor animal squealing for it's life, as she buries her teeth into it?

(Katelyn finds the eyes of the toy.)

Katelyn: Look at those eyes. Puppy, you're killing it.

Michael: Are you having a good time with that dog?

(Katelyn laughs.)

Katelyn: Yeah. I just have to, you know, sit here and hold this, and she... makes her little squeaky sounds and pulls a little bit.

Michael: She's certainly having a good time.

(Stefan sits at the dining room table on his phone.)

How is the game progressing so far?

Stefan: It's going okay. I activated a powerful weapon.

(Stefan laughs.)

Michael: Did it... do lots of damage?

Stefan: Yeah!

Michael: Wow.

Stefan: Wow.

Michael: Good.

Stefan: Uh huh.

Michael: Yep.

Nick: Mhm.

Stefan: Cookies!

(Abby eats some food out of her food bowl. She looks at the camera and the light reflects off of them.)

Michael: Ooh, Abby's gonna get some food. Oh yeah! Oh, your eyes are all crazy.

Stefan: Oooo. Some Cheerios.

Michael: Looks like Captain Crunch.

Nick: Doesn't taste like it, I don't think.

Michael: Have you tasted it?

Nick: No, but I can smell it.

Stefan: Cookiiiieess!

Michael: It can't be that bad. Should I taste one?

Nick: Take a vote!

Stefan: Cookie?

Michael: Should I taste one?

Stefan: Oh, no.

Michael: No??

Stefan: Why would you taste— it's for dogs.

Michael: But don't you want to know what it tastes like?

Stefan: No.

(Stefan lies on the floor with his phone above his head. Nick and Katelyn sit on the couch.)

Nick: I like big butts and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny, the when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face...

Stefan and Nick: ...you get sprung!

Michael: It's really dark in here.

Nick: Yeah, I...

Stefan: Why can't I do a border?

Nick: Uh, right behind you is the switch for this one. Closest to you.

Michael: Oh, this?

Nick: Yeah. Is that more better?

Michael: Ahhhhh! Um, how did your game of Arkham go?

Stefan: Are you asking me?

Michael: How did your game of Arkham go?

Nick: It went pretty terribly, actually! It was one of the worst games we've ever played.

Stefan: We lost horribly.

Nick: Yeah. We lost about as badly as you could lose.

Michael: Mmm.

Stefan: We—We basically didn't do anything.

(Katelyn giggles.)

Nick: Yup.

Stefan: And just waited until there were so many... so much evil pouring forth into the town that the... that Cthulhu awakened, and then we just basically lost because he regenerates health, and we didn't have enough weapons to kill him.

(Stefan fake laughs. Michael fake laughs.)

Nick: (Dejectedly) Heh.

Katelyn: (Softly to Abby) Come here.

(The camera moves toward Abby as she starts to bite the squeaky toy. Michael reaches out and grabs it, but Abby puts up a fight.)

Michael: What if I try to take it away? Huh? Huh? Errr... errrgh... errrgh... errr oh gerrr... gerrrrrrr... Oh, she got it.

Car

Michael: It's so dark in here, too. Now we're driving to Hank's house so that Katelyn can let Hank's dog out because Hank is in... Florida?

Katelyn: Yeah, he's in Florida.

Michael: Yeah, okay. I don't know why he's in Florida.

Katelyn: I think there's...

Stefan: Family.

Katelyn: Yeah, something about family meeting... gathering.

Michael: Family Florida time.

Katelyn: Yeah.

Stefan: Family meeting!

Hank Green's House

(Lemon walks around Hank's living room.)

Katelyn: Hi. Hello.

Michael: Hey Lemon. Oh, sniff my crotch.

Katelyn: Hello.

(Katelyn pets LEmon.)

Stefan: Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.

Katelyn: Are you... were you sleeping? Are you sleepy?

(Cameo stealthily walks across the living room and under the dining room table.)

Michael: And there's a kitty too.

Katelyn: Kitty!

Michael: Cameo!

Katelyn: Kitty! Come here kitty!

(Michael crouches down to see Cameo under the table.)

Michael: It's too dark in here. It's too dark everywhere. Everything needs to have more light.

Katelyn: (Talking to Lemon like a small child) Do you need to go outside and go potty? Okay.

(Michael pets Cameo.)

Michael: (In a deep voice) I will pet you kitty. I will pet your bum. I will pet your bum.

Cameo: Meow.

Michael: Oh.

(Katelyn giggles.)

Does that mean you don't like that?

Katelyn: Yeah.

Michael: (In a deep voice) I will pet your head. I pet your head. Oh, you like that.

Katelyn: (Imitating Michael's deep voice) Oh, kitties like pets.

Michael: Why do humans talk so strangely to animals?

(Katelyn laughs.)

(Lemon lays in her crate eating a treat.)

Michael: (In a slightly exaggerated normal tone of voice) Are you enjoying that bone, Lemon? Just doesn't have the same ring as: (in a baby talk voice) Oh, who's a good doggy? You like that bone? Ohhh!

Michael Aranda's Apartment

(A pan of eggs to cooking on the stove.)

Michael: Stefan's finishing off the night with some eggs.

Stefan: Hell yeah.

Michael: How do you like them eggs?

Stefan: Eggs with a little bit of green peppers and some... Tony's Creole Seasoning. Mmm.

(The microwave reads 12:20 AM.)

Michael: Mmm. Oh look it's tomorrow.

(Michael holds the camera vlogger style. He spins around to have Katelyn and Stefan behind him in the shot as they stand in the kitchen.)

I have two questions for you. One is whether you like the longer format videos like this or if you prefer the shorter clips willy-nilly. Uh, the second question is... what you think about the way that I title these videos? I'm considering the idea of not titling the videos a random — it's not random — what looks to be a random string of numbers. It's actually the date and the time. Um... but I wonder if I should... give them actual titles... or something. Katelyn seems to think so.

(Katelyn holds up a thumbs up as she eats.)

I haven't asked Stefan. What does Stefan think?

(Stefan turns from his computer on the counter.)

Stefan: I don't give a shit.

Katelyn: I think you should just title them whatever you put in the description.

(Katelyn nods as she looks at the camera.)

Michael: Well, we'll find out...

Stefan: It does... it does... uh, random strings of numbers makes it hard to find... videos later if you, you know... had one you wanted to watch.

Michael: Yeah... this is true.

(Stefan smacks the spatula on the pan. Michael makes a worried face and pans to have Stefan behind him in the shot. Stefan looks menacingly into the camera.)

Katelyn: You need to sit down.

Michael: Uh, let me know what you think and I'll see you next time on another exciting adventure in the land of... I don't know.
