Transcript[edit | edit source]

(Static noise plays over a shot of the snowy parking lot outside Michael's apartment. The distant sound of Michael, Kelsey Cote, Marcus Schlueter, Todd Williams, Abi Rein, Ceri Riley, and Katelyn Salem counting down to the New Year's fade up to a normal audio level as the Season Seven screen is displayed.)

Synema Studios Office Building – December 31, 2016 11:59 PM

(At full volume) Happy New Year!

(Music plays under Michael's voiceover and we see several clips: a view of the snowy parking lot outside his apartment's front door, Michael swinging a garbage bag into a dumpster, Michael showing Kelsey the thumbnail from Secret Spices, Michael pushing the start button on a treadmill, bacon cooking, Index reaching up and sniffing Michael's hand, Abby walking up to Michael in the Complexly office, and Todd talking to Michael as he lays on an operation table at the hospital.)

Michael Aranda: At the beginning of January, I made the decision to just stop filming to let us work through the massive backlog of footage that we had. So for almost two months... I just got a handful of clips here and there when I thought something interesting was happening. But probably the only really relevant thing that happened in the first month and a half of 2017 was that I sliced my fingers open in a drone accident.

Community Medical Center – February 19, 2017

(The camera pans from Todd down to Michael's right hand, which is strapped to the table and has stitches in his middle and ring fingers. A piece of the top of his middle finger is missing.)

Michael: There it is!

Todd: So... Sorry man.

Michael: Drones, man. Drones.

Todd: Yeah...

Michael: For the rest of my life, I’m gonna be missing the very tip of my middle finger.

Todd: Yeah. Not a laughing matter, but uh...

Michael: I mean, what else can you do about it?

("Intro" plays over the opening title screen.)

Katelyn Salem's Jeep – 4:25 AM MST

(Ethereal music plays under Michael talking.)

Michael: What better way to kick off Season Seven of WhatImDoingRightNow than with a travel video?

Missoula International Airport

(Ethereal music continues as Michael, Katelyn, and Todd walk into the airport, while Michael checks in, and under Michael talking.)

Michael: I hear a Caitlin Hoffmeister…

Caitlin Hoffmeister: Hi!

(Caitlin laughs.)

(A synth plays over the ethereal music over shots of Michael, Katelyn, and Todd walking to airport security, Michael placing the camera in a tray and it going through the x-ray machine, the three walking down the aisle of the plane to find their seats, a panning shot of the seat in front of Michael, a shot out the window as the airplane takes off, Michael walking up the walkway at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport at 9:11 AM CST, Katelyn walking through the airport, Michael stepping off of an escalator, Todd walking down the walkway onto a second plane, Todd pointing to a sticker that reads "Wi-Fi & Entertainment On Demand" and then giving a thumbs up, Todd looking out the window of the airplane as it flys, Jessi Knudsen-Castañeda stepping off the bottom of an escalator as Michael rides it down at Boston Logan International Airport at 2:00 PM EST, and Michael placing the camera on the baggage carousel and it riding down to show Katelyn happily waving at the camera.)

Boston Logan International Airport

Michael: We made it!

(Todd gives Michael a tired high-five.)

Michael: That’s the first Todd-Five of this season.

Todd: Congratulations.

Michael: I haven’t been to Boston since... summer of 2015?

Caitlin: I’ve never been to Boston!

Michael: It’s a city.

Uber-Lyft Car

(Jazz piano plays over shots out of the window of a car as it drives out of the airport and then past a park to show the city beyond it.)

Michael: Okay, so now we are in an Uber-Lyft, uh, with Juan. Uh... He’s driving us to the Sheraton. I’m curious... what do you think we should do in Boston while we’re here?

Juan: There’s lots of things to do here in Boston definitely. One of the things that you could do, since you are going to stay at the Sheraton, is you could probably go ahead and visit, you know, all of Stone Street, Newberry Street... You’re gonna find a lot of, um... places to eat, you’re gonna find some places to... buy some gifts for friends and families... To be honest with you, you can just Google what—

(Michael laughs.)

Juan: You can just Google “What's one of the most interesting things to do in the Boston area” and you will have, like, hundreds... of hits.

Michael: What’s your favorite restaurant?

Juan: My favorite restaurant in that area is one called Dillon’s.

Michael: Dillon’s.

Juan: Yeah.

Todd: What kind of food is it?

Juan: Uh… I always go for the steak my man, I don’t care what kind of food they have...

(Michael laughs.)

Michael: Katelyn’s been cravin’ a steak for a while!

Katelyn: Hell yeah.

Juan: There you go!

Sheraton Boston Hotel – 2:39 PM EST

(Juan takes the last suitcase out of the trunk and puts it on the ground.)

Juan: Enjoy your time!

Michael: Cool.

Todd: Thanks, man.

Michael: Thank you very much!

(Michael waves at Juan and he gives them a double thumbs up.)

Juan: Alright, thank you, see you!

(Michael walks through the front door of the Sheraton.)

Michael: It’s the "S"! Whew! Welcome to the Sheraton!

(Michael, Todd, and Katelyn are in the elevator.)

Michael: When we were checking in, the guy behind the counter recognized me from SciShow. So he gave us 10% off at Dillon’s! It’s a sign!

(The three are in their hotel room. Todd is washing his hands in the bathroom and Katelyn is sitting on the far bed next to the window.)

Michael: All right... Here’s our hotel room. It comes with a Toddly in the bathroom.

(Todd turns to Michael and gives him a big smile.)

Michael: Eeeey. It’s got a Katelyn.

(Katelyn is laying across the width of the bed.)

Michael: It’s got a TV... Here’s the view.

(Michael show the view out the window and points at a hotel a couple streets over off to the left.)

Michael: The Colonnade, I don’t know what that is.

(Michael points the camera to the right at the The First Church of Christ, Scientist, which has a construction crane in front of it.)

Michael: There’s a crane. There’s a nice dome right there, of something. Are we connected to the convention center?

Katelyn Salem: I think so?

Todd: Sí.

Michael: Is that it down there?

Katelyn: Prolly?

Belvidere Street

Michael: Now that we’ve got checked in to the hotel, the next order of business is feeding the Todd.

Todd: Just me?!

Michael: Oh, we’ve also been joined by Ceri, who has recommended that we visit Boloco. I can’t remember if Natalie took me to a Boloco the last time that we were here... The last time that I was here...

Boloco

(Michael is using a iPad installed at the restaurant to order his food.)

Michael: So here at Boloco, you get to choose your toppings with this little menu thing... What kind of cheese goes well with buffalo sauce? I know blue cheese is traditional, but I don’t like blue cheese.

Katelyn: Uh...

Michael: Would cheddar cheese be weird with that?

Katelyn: No...

Michael: (Passionately) I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna live wildly.

(Michael holds up a partially eaten burrito to the camera.)

Michael: This is my burrito creation. It’s pretty good. How do you feel?

(Katelyn is mid-bite, nods, and then gives a thumbs up. Todd also gives a thumbs up.)

Michael: Todd is very satisfied. (To Ceri) You knew what you were getting.

Ceri Riley: I did. I’ve been here a lot.

Michael: Yeah.

Massachusetts Ave

Michael: Having had our fill of burritos, we’re now gonna go get some boba!

Katelyn: Mmm!

Michael: Katelyn loves boba!

Katelyn: Anytime we go to any sort of major city, I have to look for bubble tea or boba.

Michael: Todd, how do you feel about boba?

Todd: Eh.

(Ceri laughs.)

Outside Kung Fu Tea

(Michael points at a neighboring business.)

Michael: What is a Christian Science Practitioner?

Katelyn: Spiritual healing.

Todd: They do—they do spiritual healing.

Michael: But what does that mean?

(Michael reads a pamphlet in the store window.)

Michael: “What is Christian Science? Mary Eddy discovered and founded Christian Science.” Where did she discover it?

Katelyn: “Prayer that can heal, redeem, and restore anyone.”

Michael: I s—I see the Christian... I don’t see the science.

Todd: Look how—look—look how big it is. And it’s like... storefront window so you could come here and watch someone being healed, you know?

Michael: Like a dentist office?

Todd: Mhm!

Kung Fu Tea

(Michael points at some posters.)

Michael: You could get, like, orange flavor bubble tea, or green tea flavor... Or computer chair flavor...

(Dance music plays over a One Bubble Tea Later screen.)

Sheraton Boston Hotel – 7:08 PM EST

(Michael, Todd, Ceri, and Katelyn are in the elevator.)

Michael: Uh, the time has come...

Katelyn: The walrus said.

Todd: Oooo.

Michael: To go to dinner.

Katelyn: That’s not what he said.

(They leave the elevator and walk toward the lobby.)

Michael: Look at all these people in the lobby. Oh, yeah.

Belvidere Street

(Michael points the camera up at the skyscrapers as the group walk down the street.)

Boylston St

Michael: We were on our way to dinner, and we found a Matthew Gaydos.

Matthew Gaydos: Hi!

Michael: Does this vlog have enough Matthew Gaydos in it now?

Matthew: I mean, I’m not the judge.

(Michael and Todd walk in the back of the group.)

Michael: Today has felt very much like, a whirlwind to me, because I didn’t sleep last night, I was editing video for most of the night, and then maybe... 45 minutes before we were supposed to leave for the airport, that’s when I started packing, and I was being all frantic about it, and then we got to the airport, and then we got on the plane, and then I passed out, and then we landed, and then we went to the other plane, and then I passed out, and then we landed, and then we got here, and then we checked in, and then we got food, and then we went back, and I edited, and now we’re going out to get food again, so... There hasn’t been much of a chance for me to be like, “Oh! This is happening now!”

Todd: Yeah.

Michael: But uh, we’re in Boston. NerdCon: Nerdfighteria is tomorrow, and the day after. We have a Synema Studios booth that, uh, Todd and Katelyn are gonna get set up in the morning. We found out today that there’s only 15 vendors at NerdCon, so... There’s a good chance that everyone who goes into the expo hall is going to see our merch! Gonna see the Responsible People shirts!

Todd: Please buy one!

Michael: Buy lots of shirts, please!

Todd: I feel you on the being tired thing.

Michael: Yeah.

Todd: Uh, I didn’t sleep either. I wasn’t editing; I was (laughing) playing video games. But I’m getting older.

Michael: Yeah.

Todd: I’m getting older, Michael.

Michael: Pullin’ these all-nighters, it’s not as easy as it used to be.

Todd: Nope.

Ruth's Chris Steak House

Michael: It’s pretty dark in here, but this is like my... twice-a-year nice steak meal. (to Katelyn) And you’re finally getting your steak!

Katelyn: Mm. Mhm! I know, and it’s—it's a... expensive steak!

(Dance music plays over a One Expensive Steak Later screen.)

Boston Public Gardens – 9:35 PM EST

Michael: Right now we’re in the Boston Public Gardens, which is a place that Natalie brought me in 2015, and I think this statue up here... I remember standing in front of it and... I think I asked her if she thought anyone would ever make a statue of me.

(Katelyn and Ceri laugh.)

Michael:And since then, Hank’s got a statue made of him,

Michael and Ceri: out of butter.

Katelyn: What do you wanna be made out of?

Michael: I don’t know. If you were gonna make a statue of me what would you make it out of? Pizza?

Katelyn: Collect a bunch of bacon grease.

Michael: Bacon grease...

Katelyn: And then let it cool and then make a statue—

Michael: Okay. I could see that.

Katelyn: —of you out of bacon grease.

Michael: I’m down with that.

(The camera shows a walkway through the park lined on both sides by trees wrapped in string lights.)

Michael: I wanted to walk down this way because I thought this was gonna make a nice Instagram picture, but... turns out... it didn’t. It’s not that great.

Katelyn: It’s nice to walk under, though!

Michael: It is nice to walk through. I just wish the picture did this justice.

Walking back to the Sheraton

Michael: Oooo, someone just got Boston busted!

("Outro" plays over the end screen.)
