EcoGeek Office

(There are two empanadas sitting on a table. One is marked with a B and the other with a C)

Michael Aranda: What does the B stand for?

Caitlin Hoffmeister: Beet.

Michael: Beet? Not beef?

Caitlin: Not beef.

Michael: Do they have beef ones?

Caitlin: I don't know. They have ham and cheese. And chicken.

Michael: Beet. I don't know if I like beets.

Caitlin: Wanna try?

Michael: C is corn?

Caitlin: Yeah.

Michael: Not chicken?

Caitlin: Not chicken.

Michael: Which one's chicken?

Caitlin: P. Pollo.

Reid Reimers: (says something in Spanish)

Michael: What are we doing today Caitlin?

Caitlin: Oh, I'm eating a corn empanada. But then, we're gonna film Reid talk about space.

Reid: Spaaaace!

Caitlin: And things that were in space (whispers) but are now on earth.

(Michael gasps)

Caitlin: And then, we're gonna film Michael Aranda giving you the answer to quiz show.

(Noooo! is written on the office whiteboard)

(Michael and Reid gasps)

Caitlin: Noooo!

EcoGeek Filming Studio

Michael: It's about to get real science-y in here. Right Lou? Right.

Michael's Ford Mustang

(The CD players buzzes loudly)

Michael: I should get that fixed.

I filmed stuff for three episodes of SciShow annnnd I don't know what I have to do now, but I'm sure there's something. Something on my to-do list.

It's finally warm enough in Missoula that getting into a car with leather seats is painful. So that's how you know that winter is finally over.

Michael's Apartment

(A wasp is crawling on the inside of the apartment window)

Michael: There is some kind of wing-ed creature in my apartment and I am not a fan.

In the comments on the video that went up today somebody asked me to finger spell the letter B in American Sign Language. So that's (finger spells B) that's what looks like. They're talking about my low digit ratio. I don't get it. (Katelyn Salem opens the front door) Heueueugh! (Katelyn strikes a pose)

Katelyn Salem: Are you ready to run?

Michael: Yeah.

Outside

(Michael and Katelyn's feet run along the asphalt ground and the camera pans up to reveal a car lined residential street. They pause underneath a bridge and the river slowly goes by. They then walk down a more forested path, with birds squawking in the background. They stop under a much larger bridge where the river is rushing by quickly. )

SpectrUM Discovery Area

(Michael pans around the lobby of SpectrUM. There is a sign that says "Science. Try it")

Michael: Science. Try it.

Katelyn: (puts on some lab goggles) I'm ready for science.

(The cover is lifted off of a styrofoam box to reveal dry ic.e)

Amber: Hmm, it’s not like a solid block. I’m gonna make something explode.

Katelyn: Oh yeah it is snowy, huh.

(Voices are in slow motion as the employee puts the dry ice in a small container and then backs away. There is an abrupt sound as the ice explodes, in slow motion)

Katelyn: (in slow motion) Wow.

Outside

Michael: That was Katelyn’s friend Amber. We were just jogging by and I saw her in that building, flailing wildly at us. And I was like, I know that person, who is that person? Oh yeah it’s Amber. So we went back and she showed us that science experiment thing that they do for kids.

Michael’s Apartment

Michael: So I got an email back from that guy that I emailed last night. And he says, “Thanks for reaching out. Please feel free to call to discuss it further as, sometimes, a brief chat really helps in the understanding. We really feel one premium video from you would do great on this platform. As for your email questions, we have a fixed access fee for each video, regardless of length. Our market studies showed this was the best model across the board. As you can imagine, such a small access fee gets crushed by credit card transaction fees, sales tax, and video storage fees. As a result, we only make about 6% on each transaction, while providing the creator a guaranteed 50 cents per video accessed. Hope to hear from you soon. “

I don’t like this. I specifically asked him what their cut was and he turned around and said they only make 6%. That doesn’t tell me what their cut is. That just tells me what their netting in the end. So after poking around on their site, it looks like they charge $1.35 per video, for people to buy. And if I’m guaranteed 50 cents of that, that means that 63% is going to this company. Even with a service like Patreon, which I used to have before I was on Subbable, um, where it’s not uncommon to see people, uhh, giving creators $1 per video, in that situation, the viewer giving the money is giving less, but the creator is receiving more. I just, this thing, I don’t like it.

I haven’t looked into it, but YouTube already offers the option to sell or rent your content to your viewers. I don’t understand why anyone would want to do it on a different platform. Something seems… not right about this business venture. (Michael gently shakes is head in disappointment)

Katelyn: (points to chewing mouth) This chocolate’s really good.

Michael: I also got another email today from a different company. it says “Hello. My name is Jackie. I’d like to speak to a member of your business team regarding a potential partnership.” (looking at the camera, Office style) My business team. “We’ve seen amazing success on our platform with Youtube channels similar to yours and we can provide you with tools to grow and monetize your brand. I look forward to hearing back from you.” Why don’t they ever just say what their thing is about in the email. It pisses me off.

Hello Jackie, I’m interested in hearing more about your services. What are they? (Michael laughs)

The Source Health Club

(Michael begins doing barbell squats. There is general upbeat music in the background.)

The “M” Hiking Trail

Michael: Alright. We’ve got a big group of people together—

Kristen Franklin: Wooo!

Michael: We are all going for a hike up the “M”. It is currently 10:30 in the evening.

Matt Gaydos: (trips) Oh shit!

Michael: Matt is already falling over.

Guy’s there’s water. There’s water on the ground. Why is there water? It’s not raining.

Kristen : Sprinklers.

Michael: It’s not raining.

Kristen: Pretty sure it’s sprinklers.

Valerie Barr: I think, yeah.

Michael: We finished the first switchback. Some of us seem pretty tired. This probably all looks black to you. That’s ok. Matt Gaydos is over there (Shines light on Matt)

Matt: I’m blind. I’m gonna die now, thanks.

Michael: There you go Sarah.

(Looking at a centipede) Look at this little guy.

Alright, no one at home can see this, but we are at the M. That’s somebody shining a light at us. Katelyn, what can you tell me about your experience?

Katelyn: Um, it’s nice and cool and breezy and I feel like I worked out a lot today.

Michael: Yeah.

Katelyn: Yeah.

Michael: Good.

Kristen: That wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

Michael: It’s not bad at all.

Stefan Chin: It’s not bad, it’s not bad.

Valerie: I feel like the, the first thing was—

Kristen: The first switchback was, was a little long.

Valerie: Yeah.

Michael: The best part about coming up here (Pans up to the view and angelically has)

Kristen: Is the view.

Michael: Aww yeah.

Kristen: Look at them lights twinkle.

Michael: Look at all them twinklies. Oh, now I want a Twinkie.

Hey Stefan, how’s it going?

Stefan: What’s up?

Michael: How’s it going?

Stefan: What do you want to know?

Michael: I want to know how it’s going.

Stefan: Good.

Michael: Oh, good.

Stefan: Oh good.

Michael: Oh hey Matt, ohhh. All we can see are two silhouettes that are merged in one silhouette.

Stefan: We have become one.

Matt: (singing) Two become one.

Michael: Yup.

We made it!!!

(Yeahs, wooing, and cheers)

Yeah, oh, there’s a step there. I almost fell over. Congratulations everybody. You did it.

Kristen: Yeeeah.

Michael: There’s a lot of people here.

Denny’s

Kristen: But, it’s not.

Michael: It’s Denny’s and look what they’ve got. They’ve got a new cinnamon apple pie milkshake.

Valerie is making a maze. It’s …

Michael: A-maze-ing!

Valerie: A-maze-ing!

Michael: Ahhhhahhhahhh.

Kristen: No.

Matt: Aww.

Michael: Ahhhahhhahhh.
